Lanny Dean Powers, 71, passed away at home surrounded by his family Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 in Corsicana. Lanny was born July 1, 1946 in Eagle Lake, to Paul and Frances Powers. Lanny was the oldest of three boys, Clark Powers of Eagle Lake and Scott Powers, of Corsicana. He graduated from Howard Payne University with a degree in education in 1969. He married Claudette Taylor of Bay City in 1970. They were married for 47 years. They had three children together, Patrick Powers of Mildred, Lanette Stewart of Corsicana, and Peyton Powers of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Lanny was a farmer and rancher at heart. But throughout his life he also owned The Donut Palace in Corsicana, Powers Spray Equipment in Mesquite and drove for SWIFT trucking across the country. He had many hobbies including wood working, blacksmith, automobile mechanics, hunting, and singing in the First Baptist choir. But above all these, he found most joy in his family and grandchildren. He had five beloved grandchildren Eli Powers, Ty Powers, Elliette Stewart, Colton Stewart, and Charlette Stewart. He also leaves behind by his daughter-in-law, Haven Powers of Mildred and son-in-law, Brent Stewart of Corsicana.
Lanny will be remembered for his serving heart and love for helping others. His memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at First Baptist Church of Corsicana.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church.
