Kenneth Donald "Poppy" McCreary passed away peacefully Sunday, July 9th, 2017 at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana at the age of 84.
Donald was born March 23, 1933 in Roane to Kenneth Clifton McCreary and Lillie Skipper-McCreary. Donald graduated from Corsicana High School in 1952. Following graduation, he was drafted into the US Army where he served as a heavy equipment mechanic in Korea. Donald married the love of his life, Bobbie Ann Allbritton of Buffalo Oct. 14, 1957. Donald worked in pipeline construction, auto parts sales, and as a mechanic at the Jewett Mine until his retirement in 1999. Donald loved the outdoors and was an avid collector of guns.
Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bobbie McCreary, his son Scott McCreary and his wife Stacey of Corsicana; his grandchildren Grayson McCreary of Huntsville, Gretchen McCreary, Morgan McCreary, Wilson Shelton and wife Katie, Whitney Bugg and husband Nathan all of Corsicana; his great-grandchildren Parker McCreary, Connor and Jax Shelton, and Hawk Bugg all of Corsicana; sister Leola Smith of Manhattan, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his sister Oleta Douglas of Welch, Oklahoma.
A celebration of Donald's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017 at The Cowboy Church of Corsicana at 5864 W. Hwy. 31. The service will be officiated by Derek Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The Cowboy Church of Corsicana. The family would like to thank all the employees of Heritage Oaks West and Navarro Regional ICU for the compassionate care.
