Julia May Boyd was born May 15, 1919 and passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2017. She was one of 10 children born to William Isaac Boyd and Melissa (Lissie) Pullin Boyd on their farm northeast of Blooming Grove.
Julia grew up in Blooming Grove and graduated from Blooming Grove High School. She lived most of her adult life in Dallas. marrying Raymond (Rex) Bibby on Aug. 13, 1943, who had custody of his three young children, Wayne, Jerry, and Derril. She joyfully welcomed the responsibility of helping him raise the boys, and loved them as her own. On Aug. 31,1945 they welcomed the arrival of daughter Carol. The family lived in Dallas until 1958 when Julia, Rex, Carol and Derril moved to El Paso. On Dec. 1, 1978 her husband Rex passed away. About three years later, Julia impulsively eloped with a childhood friend from Blooming Grove, James Otis Blackmon, and they returned to Blooming Grove. For many years they had an on and off relationship, but were divorced for the second time years before he passed away.
Julia enjoyed living in Blooming Grove where she was close to several family members and relished her independence. But in November of 2012 she suffered a massive stroke and had to enter Trisun Care Center in Corsicana for physical therapy. She was enthusiastic about the therapy and worked hard at it, hoping to be able to return home to her independence, but that was not to be.
In 2015 when she turned 96, she was convinced that it was time for her to finally be called to meet Jesus and be reunited with loved ones who had passed. Julia was a person of great faith who was never afraid to die and, in fact, looked forward to entering the next phase of life. But it was two more years before her wish was granted.
Julia was preceded in death by husband, Raymond (Rex) Bibby, son Jerry Walton Bibby, all three of her sisters, Lila Morse, Ethel (Cute) Boyd and Sadie Jones, and five of her six brothers, Wylie, Victor, Bobby, William (Doodle) and Charlie Boyd.
Julia is survived by her brother Elmer (Sonny) Boyd and brother-in-law Don Jones, both of Blooming Grove; daughter Carol Cameron Smothers of Irving, sons Derril Bibby and daughter-in-law Kathe of Bremond, and Wayne Bibby and daughter-in-law Cleta of Duncanville; granddaughters Stacey Cameron Shafer and Angela Bibby Marrs; grandsons Steven Cameron, and Russell, Brett, Brandon, Peter, and Derek Bibby; two great granddaughters; five great grandsons; four great-great grandsons and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
