Jim Roy Brown passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, just shy of his 81st birthday at Twilight Nursing Home following a long illness. He was born at Cryer Creek Feb. 29, 1936 to parents Fate and Cleo Brown. Being a leap-year baby, he often joked, well into his 70's, of being just a teenager. He was married to Joyce Deaton Brown for 29 years.
Jim Roy was retired from Chatanooga Glass and Anchor Glass after 26 years of employment. In his retirement, he owned and operated a tree service for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Corsicana. Everyone who knew Jim Roy has a special memory of him whether it be about his hard work, hunting, fishing, his humor, or his countless acts of love, kindness and generosity. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Brown.
Jim Roy is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Gary Brown; daughter, Becky Brown and blended family of Steve Deaton and wife Bea, Joe Deaton, and Nancy Chew and husband Coleman; brothers, Bobby Don Brown, Terry Brown, and Danny Brown; grandchildren Jason Graham, Paige Ogilvie, Adam Brown, Jason Jock, Allison Syltie, Seth Deaton, and Trevor Deaton; great grandchildren Olivia Jock, Declan Jock, Zakk Deaton, and Nora Syltie; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. His special four-legged friends were Rambo and Lulu.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Griffin Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Cryer Creek Cemetery with Rev. Rick Lamb officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Jason Graham, Alan Brown, Jessie Starkey, Joe Deaton, Trent Parker and Adam Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Coleman Chew, Ernest Kauffman, Harold Lily, Ronald Lynch, Larry Farish, Bubba Bass, Steve Deaton and Hall Griffin.
