Edith Maurice Owen, 72, went to her heavenly home on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017. She passed away peacefully at her residence in Purdon, surrounded by her family.
Maurice was born Oct. 22, 1944 in West Point, Mississippi. She moved to Corsicana at age 12, graduated from Corsicana High School in 1962 and attended Navarro College, as well as married the love of her life, Kenneth Floyd Owen, with whom she shared 54 years.
Maurice loved helping people find homes during her 32 years of service as a real estate agent and broker, but was even more dedicated to her faith in God and to sharing his Word. She ministered at many locations in the Corsicana and DFW areas over the years and did outreach work with prisoners, the youth, and the elderly. She also traveled to minister in Jamaica, the United Kingdom and Africa.
Maurice was preceded in death by her father Sylvester Gregg, mother Letha Woodard Gregg and brother David Gregg.
She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Owen; her daughter Monica Moody and husband Matt and grandchildren, whom she adored, Kaya and Kaleb Moody. She is also survived by her brother Bobby Gregg and his wife, Carol; brother James Parker; sisters Sylvia Singleton, Julia Wilcoxson, and her husband B.A., and Deborah Parker; her husband Kenneth's brothers Don Owens and his wife Juanita, Robert L. Owen and his wife Sandra, and sister Earlene Bowling and her husband Johnnie, along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Dawson. A celebration of Maurice's life will follow at 2 p.m., with pastor and cousin Steve Burleson officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow immediately after at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery in Retreat.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Owens, Jimmy Owens, Johnnie Bowling, Jr., Joe Bowling, Josh Bowling, Josh Burleson, Matt Moody and Kaleb Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Gregg, Don Owens, Robert L. Owen, Randall Burleson, Billy Burleson, Garland Burleson and Bill Sherrard.
Maurice's family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the many churches, extended family, and special friends who have provided unending love, prayer, and support during Maurice's illness. Special thanks goes to Family First Hospice of Ennis and Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
