Carolyn Ann Cade Choate passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 in Athens, at the age of 78.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Hoyte Choate, her children Barry Choate and his wife Sandra Choate of Malakoff, Catherine Choate Schindler and her husband Ronnie of Magnolia, her brother Hylas Hulan Cade Jr. of Eads, Tennessee, grandson Hunter Hoyte Choate of Malakoff, Tanner Lynn Choate of Lubbock, and John Hoyte Schindler of Magnolia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hylas Hulan Cade and Marguerite Cade of Malakoff.
Carolyn was born July 20, 1938, in Corsicana to Hylas and Marguerite Cade. She graduated from Malakoff High School in 1957 as salutatorian and later from East Texas State University in Commerce with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master of Science Degree in Education.
She met her husband, Hoyte "Sonny" Choate at East Texas State University and they married on June 23, 1962. Carolyn taught English at Waco Midway Middle School for two years before moving to Kerens. Carolyn then began teaching in the Business Department at Navarro College in Corsicana, where she retired after teaching for 30 years. Carolyn had a beautiful singing voice and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Kerens.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens. A funeral is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Kerens with Rev. Michael Redmond officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carolyn's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church of Kerens, or your favorite charity in her honor.
