Carl Lee Self, age 94, of Frost, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017. He was born in Clarksville on May 30, 1923 to J.F. and Annie Self.
After the death of his father at the age of 11, he and his mother moved to Telico. Carl worked at the sale barn and caddied golf to help provide for his family. Carl and Annie then moved to Ennis, where he met the love of his life Pauline Frances Wagner. They were married 53 years before she preceded him in death.
In 1944 Carl was drafted to the Navy where he proudly served his country during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Robert Brazier as Fireman First Class.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents J.R. and Annie Self, wife Pauline Self, and grandson Eddie Stephenson.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Sue Spaniel of Ennis, daughter Judy Hanson and husband, Henry of Frost, daughter Glenda Franklin and husband Bernie of Frost, son Carl Self, Jr. and wife Melanie of Palo Pinto, daughter Becky Stamp and husband Cecil of Frost; nine grandchildren, Melissa Franklin, Darla Land and husband Danny, Darran Hanson and wife Sharon, Kelly Williams and husband Ray; Tracey Brobst and husband Dwayne; Carla Taylor and husband Jerry; Gary Haney and wife, Dalinia; Francis Chappell and husband John; 14 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2017 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis.
Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
