Boyd's Story

Boyd C. Bryant, 94, formerly of Blooming Grove passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. He was born in Mertens April 26, 1923 to William Henry Bryant and Myrtle Simmons Bryant. Boyd graduated from High School in Mertens and was and athlete in school, holding the state mile run record for a number of years. Following school he served his country in the United States Army in World War II in the Pacific. Upon returning home he worked for Texas Power and Light and then became a contractor building homes for 50 plus years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove and served as a Deacon for over 60 years. The community was important to Boyd and he served as a city council member, mayor multiple times over a 25 year span, Blooming Grove School Board Member and President, member of the Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief. He served in the church by teaching bible school and Deacon, and took care of the widows and orphans. Boyd was a servant and a leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mary Collins, Virginia Bryant, Clay Bryant and Elvis Bryant, and his wife Melba Lovene Lynch Bryant who passed away in 2013.
He is survived by his children; Marilyn Weaver and husband Kenneth, Dennis Bryant, Marc Bryant and wife Debby, and Rhonda Lachman and husband Thomas; grandchildren; Bryan Weaver, Brandi Spicer, Becky Sulton, Matthew Bryant, Christian Lachman and Gabrielle Lachman; 10 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law Billie Joyce Rawson. Boyd is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Deacons at First Baptist Church with honorary pallbearer being Bill Brown.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove or the Wounded Warriors Project.
