Benja Ragsdale of Corsicana passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2017 at the age of 81. She was born on July 8, 1936 in Canton, Texas to Irby and Katie Norrell.
Benja graduated from Lancaster High School and Sam Houston State University. After she graduated she worked as a case worker at the Corsicana State Home before beginning her teaching career. Benja taught for many years in Corsicana at Jackson, Lincoln and Travis Elementary schools. After retiring she continued aiding the school district as a substitute teacher.
Benja attended Central United Methodist Church serving in many different capacities until the church closed, she later became a member of St. Luke's. She was a very avid Texas Ranger fan and loved watching them play. Benja loved sewing, cooking and crafting.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Roy Ragsdale, Jr.; daughter, Elaine Barnes and husband Alan of Waxahachie; sons, Steve Ragsdale of Stephenville and David Ragsdale of Corsicana; grandchildren, Justin Baxter-Ragsdale and wife Krys of Brownwood, Andrew Barnes of Waxahachie and Shelby Ragsdale of Corsicana; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Xander, Caspian and Grayson. She is also survived by her sisters Peggy Cruse, Mary Cheshire and husband T.F., Sue Taylor and husband Ken; brothers, Irby Norrell and wife Elaine, Mac Norrell, Don Norrell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Farland Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ron Stewart.
